About this event

The Frankfurter Feldbahnmuseum fires up its historic narrow-gauge locomotives for the annual Lantern Ride Day — this year with a Halloween twist. Throughout the day, diesel and steam trains from the museum's working collection trundle along the tracks through the Rebstockpark, and your ticket lets you hop on and off as often as you like. Inside Hall 2 and across the open-air grounds, the exhibition tells the story of industrial narrow-gauge railways: tiny workhorse locomotives, tipping wagons, and equipment that once moved earth, stone, and goods across construction sites, quarries, and factories. It is a walk-through collection that feels more like a hands-on workshop than a polished museum — you can get close to the machines and watch volunteers tinker and maintain the rolling stock. The Halloween special makes the day especially appealing for families with younger kids: any child who turns up with a lantern or in a Halloween costume gets free entry and unlimited free rides on all the trains. As dusk settles, a campfire is lit on the museum grounds — a quiet, flickering counterpoint to the bustle of the trains. Food is unpretentious and hearty: grilled sausages, coffee, and home-baked cakes served from the museum's own kitchen. For those who want to make a full afternoon of it, the museum is tucked into the green Rebstockpark, and the surrounding parkland is lovely for an autumn walk. Parking near the museum is extremely limited, so taking the bus (lines 50 or 89 to "Gymnasium Römerhof") or walking from Kaiserdamm station is the smarter choice.
