About this event
The evening focuses on two literary characters who break out of the expected paths of their lives. Heike Geißler presents Michaela Kohlhaas, a once quiet cemetery administrator who turns into a wilful disturber of the peace, while Sharon Dodua Otoo tells of Amata, who on a sweltering drive to the Baltic Sea kills her boss, bringing the everyday reality of being a Black woman in Germany to a head. Both novels are deeply rooted in German literary tradition but offer very contemporary, rebellious perspectives. Elena Witzeck of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung moderates the conversation, which can be experienced in person at the Literaturhaus and via livestream.
