On German Unity Day, the nationwide initiative “3 October – Germany Sings and Sounds” invites everyone to the Römerberg for an open-air community sing-along that blends music with remembrance of the Peaceful Revolution. The evening kicks off at 6:30 pm with a warm-up programme, and at 7:00 pm the main part begins: a contemporary witness shares first‑hand memories of the Wende era, then the crowd joins in singing ten well‑known songs of peace and hope. With candles in hand, the square takes on the atmosphere of the 1989 Monday demonstrations. Lyrics are shown on a large screen, so no one needs to worry about forgetting the words. The event is organised by an ecumenical partnership of Frankfurt’s Catholic and Protestant churches, the Evangelical Alliance, and the city. Admission is free, the occasion is designed for all generations, and you can simply show up and sing along – no rehearsal or perfect pitch required.
